Sunbury Canine Club hold their annual show on Melbourne Cup Day, which is always the first Tuesday in November. Sunbury Show is the biggest one day dog show held in Australia, and has a full International panel of judges.
It is held at the Sunbury Recreation Reserve, Riddell Road, Sunbury.
Sunbury is approx 35 kilometers North of Melbourne, and is a beautiful country town
with many wineries, restaurants, and interesting countryside to visit .... (Hanging Rock Mt Macedon, Emu Bottom and Rupertswood.)
Sunbury is also the Home of the "Ashes" - the most coveted trophy in the game of cricket.
The Sunbury Canine Club show is held on a large football oval, and all rings have generous sized Marquee's to cover part of the ring, these provide shade or shelter for the dogs. This year the General Specials ring will have a full marquee covering the whole ring.
All DOG and BITCH CHALLENGE winners at the show receive a bottle of champagne, which adds to the atmosphere of the holiday picnic day, as many groups have barbeques or parties allowing many dog clubs and friends to get together for a fun day out.
This is also the day when the Melbourne Cup horse race is run. The Melbourne Cup is the most famous of all Australian horse races, and is broadcast around the world.
In fact the judging stops for the broadcast of the race! We have a bookmaker on the grounds to take bets on all the races held on that day.
The venue also has a restaurant with a TAB for your bets as well.
Sunbury show is held in conjunction with many specialty breed shows, plus group shows such as the Gundog Club, Working Dog Club, Hound Club, and Victorian Women's Dog Club All Breed show.
This makes for a most exciting 4 day weekend Canine Carnival of dog shows.
For the many Interstate and Overseas visitors attending the show, the Club provides free wine, cheese and biscuits, and a place to sit down and watch the judging.
Our major sponsor ADVANCE has a hospitality marquee as well.
Catering is available on site, and the show has many stalls that offer a vast array of dog showing merchandise.
During the luncheon break there is Junior Handlers, and the Veterans classes.
Every year, in the spirit of the Melbourne Cup, there will be prizes for a Fashions On The Field Competition ( male or female ).
